Shaelyn Archibald‘s musical journey began at age eleven with her first flute lessons. Although initially interested in singing, she did not pursue serious vocal studies until 2011, when she moved to Ottawa for her Master’s Degree in flute. What started as a way to improve her flute tone blossomed into a deep passion for classical singing.
Shaelyn holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Lethbridge, a Master’s in Music from the University of Ottawa, and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of Music, all in flute performance. In 2020, she completed her Master of Music and Literature in Vocal Performance at the University of Western Ontario.
From 2015 to 2021, Shaelyn was the founder and Artistic Director of the Quintroversy Woodwind Quintet. Quintroversy, a proud member of Prologue to the Performing Arts, toured schools in the GTA and southern Ontario with their production of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf. In 2019, Quintroversy received one of the Paula Awards through Prologue’s Arts Endowment Fund, enabling them to complete their new show featuring Poulenc’s L’histoire de Babar, le petit éléphant.
Shaelyn has earned numerous scholarships and awards, including the Lethbridge Kiwanis Rose Bowl in 2011. In the same year, she placed second in the Canadian Music Competition’s National Woodwind Final in her age division. Her principal instructors have included Camille Churchfield and Dr. Kathleen Rudolph (flute), as well as Marianne Bindig, Frederique Vezina, and Patricia Green (voice).
Shaelyn’s passion for music has led to performances in local festivals and recitals across Canada. Now in Germany, she continues to perform with her latest venture, DuoWander, alongside pianist Julia Barreiro. She made her operatic debut as Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus with Toronto City Opera in 2016. Other role credits include the Merry Widow in The Merry Widow, Alice in Night Blooming Cereus, Helen in A Northern Lights Dream, and Mrs. Grose in The Turn of the Screw.
Shaelyn has recently relocated to Berlin to pursue a career in Opera in Germany. She is ecstatic about the potential and learning opportunities available in Berlin!
